If you have ever downloaded a Capcom arcade ROM from the early 90s, you have likely interacted with three pieces of technology that seem completely unrelated: , High-Level Emulation (HLE) , and the humble ZIP file .

Modern emulators do not require this. If you are doing this, you are using software from 2003. Update your emulator.

You get the exact same 3D audio effect, but using 0.5% of your CPU instead of 30%. HLE turns a hardware audio accelerator into a simple API call.

In modern arcade emulation, specifically for versions 0.201 and later, qsound_hle.zip is a required support file for games using Capcom's QSound audio hardware, such as those on the CP System II (CPS2) board.

The QSound HLE Zip Work has several applications and benefits:

Arcade boards stored QSound program data and samples on physical ROM chips. When you dump those chips, you get hundreds of individual .bin files. This is a mess. Enter the ZIP container.
