Last year I rebuilt a 5A-FE from a 1995 Paseo. I used a “free” manual that showed a cam timing mark at 12 o’clock. That was wrong for my year. The actual factory spec had the cam dowel at 10 o’clock. I bent two valves before finding the real PDF.

Clear the check engine light by jumping TE1 and E1 in the diagnostic box (diagram is on page DI-42 of the PDF).
: Tighten in three passes: 22 ft-lbs , then 43 ft-lbs, and a final pass at 47 ft-lbs. Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolts : 9 ft-lbs. Camshaft Timing Pulley Bolts : 43 ft-lbs. Crankshaft Pulley : 98 – 147 Nm. Routine Maintenance Schedule
