This paper examines the evolution of major entertainment studios—from the "Big Five" of Hollywood’s Golden Age to today’s streaming-powered giants (Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, Netflix, and Amazon). It argues that contemporary popular productions are not merely artistic expressions but engineered cultural products, shaped by intellectual property (IP) management, algorithmic audience targeting, and globalized distribution. Through case studies of production franchises (the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Stranger Things , and the Harry Potter franchise), this paper analyzes how studios balance creative risk with financial imperative, and how this balance dictates the aesthetics, narratives, and values of global popular culture.
