El Filibusterismo (The Reign of Greed) is the second novel by José Rizal, published in 1891. It is a sequel to Noli Me Tangere and is considered one of the most important works in Philippine literature. Chapter 139 is part of the novel’s “Second Part” (the “Second Day”) and marks a crucial turning point in the plot, bringing together several of the novel’s main conspirators and setting the stage for the impending tragedy.
