Success breeds arrogance. Sultan begins to believe he is invincible, disregarding his family and his coach’s advice. This hubris leads to a personal tragedy: while Sultan is away winning another tournament, his newborn son dies because the rare blood type needed for a transfusion was Sultan’s own. Devastated and blaming Sultan’s ego for their son's death, Aarfa leaves him. Sultan, broken by guilt, retires from the ring and spends the next several years in isolation, working as a low-level government employee and raising funds for a local blood bank in his son's memory.
